THE IMPORTANCE OF READING WITH YOUR CHILDREN

Reading is a very important aspect of Education. Early reading habits  makes a child ready for future elaborated education. In today’s fast  paced world filled with distractions and screens, the simple act of  sitting down and reading with your children remains one of most  powerful and meaningful ways to connect and nurture their  development. Reading together not only fosters a love for books but  also builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning and bonding.

Here’s why reading is important:
1. Strengthens parent- child bond: Reading with your child creates  moments of intimacy and togetherness. Sharing stories or  laughing at some funny characters builds trust and strengthens  emotional connections. These shared experiences and  moments become the memories for child and parent.
2. Boost language development: Reading develops their  vocabulary and makes children able to structure sentences on  their own. Young children learn to recognise the letters and  their sounds whereas grown up children learn comprehension  and critical thinking skills.
3. Develops cognitive skills: Stories stimulate a child’s imagination  and help them understand the world around them. They learn  to connect ideas and frame stories by themselves.
4. Encourages love for reading: When children associate stories  with fun they develop a positive attitude towards learning. This  enthusiasm for reading often extends to other areas of  education and thus motivates children.
5. Improves academic performances: Children who devote time in  reading often shows good results in their academics. Regular  reading habits sharpens literacy skills, enhances focus and  ability to analyze information.
6. Teaches important life lessons: If children are surrounded with  good books, they get to know the morals and lessons for their  life. Stories about kindness, resilience and courage help them  develop moral reasoning and learn how to navigate life’s  challenges.
Tips for making reading fun:
# Start early: Introduce books to your child from infancy. Books  like picture books and simple stories books can be given to  children at an early age.
# Make a routine: Anything becomes a habit if followed with a  routine, so parents should set a specific time for reading.
# Allow kids to choose: Encourage children to choose books of  their interests. This makes children independent and keeps  them engaged.
# Be expressive: Use different voices for characters and read  with enthusiasm to make the story come alive. This will also  make kids curious about what is going to be next in the story.
# Ask questions: Discuss the story with children and ask  relatable questions, this will make kids expressive and  confident.
Reading with your children is not just a pastime, it’s an  investment in their future. It makes them independent, curious  and give them lessons for life. They also create memories and  bond with their parents.
